The Savignac tomato was born in the 1940s, thanks to the good care of Brother Armand Savignac, of the Saint-Viateur congregation in Lanaudière. The latter has digestive disorders and a muscular disease decided to become a vegetarian it goes without saying, a rarity for the time. He has also started organic horticulture, growing his own fruits and vegetables. His business also allowed him to pay for his medical treatments. Co-founder of the Organic Horticulture Movement at 75, he finally died at the venerable age of 95. Not bad for someone who had been condemned to live under the yoke of the disease!
