The Canadian horse says "the little iron horse" is a race in its own right and has contributed greatly to the survival of the first settlers. Between 1665 and 1671, 80 horses arrived from France to the colony. Less than a hundred years later, in 1759, their descendants amounted to 14,000 animals. Small in size, with a long mane and broad hooves, it is known for its strength, strength and liveliness. The Canadian horse nearly disappeared, especially with the American Civil War, when it was massively exported. If the population went down to 1555 horses in 1912, there are now nearly 5,000, half of which are in Quebec.
